Holocaust Remembrance Day Memorial Service

“To honor those who found courage to stand against evil, often at the cost of their own lives, let us vow to carry on their Struggle. We must teach ourselves and we must teach our children to learn from hate that we must love and to learn from evil that we must live our lives for good.”

The Holocaust Remembrance Day Memorial Service will be held at National Avenue Christian Church with area faith leaders/clergy readers: The Rabbi Barbara Block-Temple Israel, The Rev. Howard Cavner-Campus Minister and advocate for Students, Ekklesia at MSU, The Rev. Kevin Cravens-koch, The Rev. Jenn Simmons, and The Rev. Mark Struckhoff-Council of Churches of the Ozarks.

Holy Week

There are four opportunities for us to gather for worship, reflection, stories and music as we head into Holy Week.

Palm Sunday will be March 25th at 10am.  We will wave palms, hear the beautiful music of the bell choir, and then enjoy brunch and an Easter egg hunt together.

Maundy Thursday is Thursday, March 29th from 10am-8pm. The gallery will have stations of the cross (created by our kiddos!) and a labyrinth.  You are welcome to come by any time and to enjoy some silence, peace and meditation.

Good Friday is March 30th at 7pm.  We will join with other Disciples congregations for a time of meditation, beautiful music, and worship.

Finally, on April 1st at 6:45am, we will have our Easter Sunrise Reflection in the Water Wise Garden (just to the North of the Church on National), where will share Easter Morning stories, sing songs, and enjoy the sunrise and silence as we greet Easter Morning.

Lenten Taize Services

Lenten Taize Services

Singing is one of the most important forms of prayer.  A few words sung over and over to a simple melody reinforce the meditative quality of prayer. They express a basic reality of faith that can be grasped by the intellect and then gradually penetrate the heart and the whole being. The simple Taize songs provide a way to “pray without ceasing” day or night, alone or with a group.

Join us for one or both of the Lenten Taize services, on Wednesday evenings- February 28 and March 14 at 7:00 pm. If you would like to listen to some of these Taize songs in advance of the services, simply Google “Taize Songs” and you will be directed to multiple resources.

Day of Meditation

Day of Meditation

Our Day of Meditation is tomorrow, February 24th, from 9am to 12pm. There will be a light brunch (please RSVP if you haven’t) and bring your journals if you can (if you don’t have one, one can be provided). We hope you will be able to join us for this wonderful opportunity to bring some peace, purpose, and calm into our lives.
